The successful applicant will work on an interdisciplinary project focusing on high-resolution ancient metagenomic analysis to investigate pathogen presence in prehistoric archaeological contexts. The project has been recently funded by the European Research Council (ERC Starting Grant PROTOPEST). The candidate will investigate ancient DNA from a range of human-associated microbes that contributed to past population health and disease, with aim to deepen our understanding of their evolutionary history and impact on prehistoric societies.
