The project will involve the analysis of ancient metagenomic datasets from different sources, with a particular focus on the distribution, evolution, and human use of plants in the past. More specifically, the objective of the PhD will be to analyse paleodietary data from ancient mastics from Alpine Lake settlements, as part of the AlpGen project, as well as paleoenvironmental and ancient metagenomic data from soil and sedimentary samples from Alaska and other circumpolar regions. The position will involve a combination of paleogenomic data analysis and spatio-temporal data modeling, with the aim to reconstruct plant species distributions and their use by humans in the past.
