The focus on this doctoral project is to combine zooarchaeological research with isotope analyses on animal remains from post-medieval Madeira (under the supervision of Dr. Ben Gruwier and Prof. Christophe Snoeck). The aim is to understand how and to what extent, Portuguese settlers were able to transform a previously uninhabited insular ecosystem.
